Why Do We Celebrate Dussehra ?

History One of the most popular Hindu festivals, Dussehra , commemorates Lord Rama's victory over the powerful demon king of Lanka, Ravana. The legend associated with this festival is that Lord Rama (the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu) headed to Lanka to rescue his wife Sita from the clutches of Ravana. Together with his brother Laxman and a company of monkeys led by his devotee Hanuman, he entered a war with Ravana that lasted nine days and victoriously defeated the ten-headed demon king on the tenth day. This day became known as Vijaydashmi or Dussehra (which means the victory achieved on the tenth day). How To Celebrations Traditional Festival .
