Why Do We Celebrate Dussehra ?
History
One of the most popular Hindu festivals, Dussehra,
commemorates Lord Rama's victory over the powerful demon king of Lanka, Ravana.
The legend associated with this festival is that Lord Rama (the eighth
incarnation of Lord Vishnu) headed to Lanka to rescue his wife Sita from the
clutches of Ravana. Together with his brother Laxman and a company of monkeys
led by his devotee Hanuman, he entered a war with Ravana that lasted nine days
and victoriously defeated the ten-headed demon king on the tenth day. This day
became known as Vijaydashmi or Dussehra (which means the victory achieved on
the tenth day).
How To Celebrations Traditional Festival .
The Dussehra festival is celebrated to recognize the victory
of good over evil. Dussehra celebrations begin from the first day of Navratri and continue until the tenth day. A special program called "Ramlila",
which is the dramatic representation of the great epic, Ramayana, is organized
in various parts of the country. This continues during the nine days of
Navratri and finally on the tenth day (Dussehra), the actors dressed as Rama
and Laxman represent the final moments of the battle and shoot burning arrows
at the giant effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhakarna, ten heads and son
Meghnad, who are placed in vast open lands (where large crowds gather to
witness this act of burning evil). This is followed by extravagant fireworks.
Conclusion
After the end of the festival, people return to their homes.
People return with joy and a new vigor for life.
