Happy Krishna Janmashtami Happy 2020, the birth of LordKrishna is celebrated every year as Janmashtami across the country. It is believed that Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, is praised and prayed by devotees on this auspicious day. According to the legend, he was born to Devaki and Vasudeva, and wrote in his destiny to save others from the wrath of his uncle King Kansa. This year, this day is being celebrated on 11 and 12 August.

Devotees gather to present a dance drama based on Krishna's life. Many also sang devotional songs and hymns of praise. Some even fast during the day. In other places, Mathura and Vrindavan are marked with Harshaollas. In all the rituals that take place after this day, people come together and form a human pyramid, known as Dahi Handi. One of them climbs up in support of the others and breaks an earthen pot placed at a height.

Krishna Janmashtami is known by different names such as 'Krishnashtami', 'Gokulashtami', 'Ashtami Rohini', 'Sri Krishna Jayanti' and 'Sri Jayanti'.
